Weekly Wishes #16

Hiking in TN, Spring Break 2009

Each week, I share goals that I would like to achieve in the week ahead and discuss my progress on last week’s goals by linking up with The Nectar Collective and sharing a Weekly Wishes post.

Last Week

1. Put together my March Project Life layout. I went to pick up my prints only to find out that Target Photo never received my order. This will be a re-do goal this week. :/

2. Next book up is…. Night Film by Marisha Pessl. I want to read at least 1/3 of it this week to stay on track with my annual goal of reading 24 books. 1/3 down, 2/3 to go!

3. Get winter coats dry-cleaned and put away in storage. I dropped them all off at the dry cleaner, so I’ll pick them up and put them away this week.

This Week

1. Put together my March Project Life layout. Let’s try this again!

2. Make sure I purchase everything that I need for our trip and run any errands for it over the weekend.

3. Call my grandparents. I was thinking about this today, and I realized that it has been too long since I’ve talked to them!

I also have my usual reading goals, but I think those are getting repetitive. I’m also going to be fairly busy at work just to get ahead for my time off, so I’m keeping my goals light again this week.

This weekend Daniel’s twin brother was in town. It was a short visit, but we had a lot of fun while he was here. We went to a Nat’s game Thursday, and on Saturday, we took him to one of our favorite brunch spots in the afternoon, and he got to meet a lot of our friends at a housewarming party that evening. Before the party, Daniel and Jacob went out to do a brewery tour, and my friend Amanda came over to bake a very special cake! She had the fantastic idea to make a cake shaped like a house, and so we did (see above)! It was really fun to make, and everyone seemed to like it – especially the hosts of the party (Lauren & Dave)!

Currently…

Reading  Night Film. This book is very addicting and slightly scary. I’m looking forward to reading quite a bit this afternoon and evening!

Writing  more London/Paris plans in our Trip Planning spreadsheet in Google Docs. Yes, we are nerds, and I love it.

Listening  the Ed Sheeran Pandora station

Thinking  that I have so much to look forward to and to be grateful for. We have had an excellent weekend, and I’m enjoying daydreaming about our future plans on this beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Smelling  the Bath and Body Works Sundrenched Vineyard candle. The whole apartment smells like Spring!

Wishing  I could get out of this terrible habit of  spending Sunday dreading Monday rather than soaking in the beauty of this day of rest. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hoping  that we are fully prepared for our trip in a week and a half!! My biggest fear is that we get to the airport and are asked for some documents (other than our passports) which we won’t have and then get turned away from boarding the plane!! I’ve double-checked UK and France visa and entry requirements, and we are good, but I’m still paranoid!

Wearing  a t-shirt from my 2010 Uganda mission trip and cozy shorts

Loving  watching Banana sunbathe. He loves the patch of sun that shines in from the window each afternoon. I just think it’s the cutest thing, but I may be slightly biased….

Wanting  to use the hours this afternoon to the fullest. Oh, and I’m wanting to try out my new Urban Decay pencil eyeliner that I ordered from Sephora this afternoon. I’ve been loyal to my beloved Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner for many years, but lately I’ve been having trouble applying it without smudges or breaks in the line. I’ve heard so many good things about the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, so I’m really hoping for something that is quick and easy to apply to take with me on my trip.

Needing  to get back to the gym! I’m off-track (yet again).

Feeling  very excited and very blessed

Weekly Wishes #15

20140421-214529.jpg

Well, last week flew by, didn’t it? Daniel and I just got back from a nice walk outside after having yummy slow-cooker brisket tacos for dinner. The weather is beautiful here today! Now I’m watching YouTube videos and writing this post from bed. :) It has been a great evening!

Last Week

1. Finish The Cuckoo’s Calling. Finally done! It was an interesting book, and I enjoyed the plot twist. I did, however, find the first half of the book very slow. It might have been because I was exhausted every day during the time I was reading the first half, so I may not be the best judge. But I really enjoyed the last half.

2. Choose and print out my pictures for my March Project Life pages. Picked out my prints and sent in the order to Target Photo, but I haven’t picked them up yet.

3. Conquer the dresser! Done! My drawers are nice and organized, and I found some things to give away and throw away.

4. Meal plan for next week. I did this on Saturday. I’m already really enjoying the benefits (see dinner reference above), and we are set for the week!

This Week

1. Put together my March Project Life layout.

2. Next book up is…. Night Film by Marisha Pessl. I want to read at least 1/3 of it this week to stay on track with my annual goal of reading 24 books. I put this on my reading list a LONG time ago back when Crystal at Dreams, Etc. highly recommended it, and it was finally my turn for it at the library this week. Very excited!

3. Get winter coats dry-cleaned and put away in storage. I don’t think I will be needing those for a while!

That’s it for this week! Daniel’s brother is coming to town Thursday through Saturday, so we want to have plenty of time to spend with him. We are excited to have him! Have a fantastic week!

The Sunday Currently, Volume 22 // Easter Edition

Happy Easter! He is risen! We have so much to be thankful for as we are reminded of what our Lord and Savior did for us on this holiday. While we wish we could be with our family in Texas today, we are happy to have good friends that we have shared this weekend with yesterday and today.

Currently…

Reading  The Cuckoo’s Calling. Almost done!

Writing  lots of Happy Easter text messages

Listening  The David Crowder Band Pandora station

Thinking  how great it was to speak with my family on the phone just now and what a beautiful Easter day it is! And how much we loved the message and music at our Easter service last night.

Smelling  banana bread baking for our small group Easter lunch today

Wishing  we could join my family for their Easter lunch today

Hoping  that everyone has a beautiful day filled with family, friends, and good weather

Wearing  pajamas. I need to start getting dressed for lunch soon!

Loving  Spring and seeing people enjoying the outdoors

Wanting  to get some cleaning and reading done this afternoon

Needing  water. Again, I’m not drinking enough of it.

Feeling  happy

Exploring DC: The Hamilton Live

Last Friday, Daniel and I met up in DC right after work and walked to the Hamilton together.  The Hamilton DC is a nice restaurant with a fancy dining area on the first floor. But once you walk past the dining area, you reach a staircase and go downstairs to enter the Hamilton Live, where we spent the rest of our evening. The Hamilton Live is a concert venue and another dining area, but it is very different from the restaurant upstairs. The atmosphere is much more casual, but it keeps the classy feel with its black table-cloths and dimly lit lights. The menu selection is smaller than the actual restaurant upstairs, but it still has a wide variety of appealing options that you would not normally see at a concert venue. We ordered pretzel sticks to start, two sushi rolls as our main course, and cheesecake and coffee for dessert. We had arrived early to grab seats with a good view of the stage, so we ate our dinner before the concert even started.

Dave Barnes played that night, and Andy Davis opened for him. We really enjoyed the concert. I’ve been a Dave Barnes fan for a while. If you have never heard of him, start with this song. It’s really good. :) You should also check out this song – it’s one of his newer ones, and it really reminds you to appreciate the good things in life.

I would highly recommend checking out the concert schedule and visiting this venue. If you are in the mood to dance and go crazy to the music, this would not be the right venue, but if you are looking for a relaxing place for dinner and entertainment after a long week, this is the place!

Weekly Wishes #14

Picture taken by my husband on his phone while walking to the metro from work

Each Monday night, I link up with The Nectar Collective to share my “wishes” or goals for the week and to share how I did on my goals last week in order to stay accountable.

I’m free!! I’m back to a normal work schedule, and I am so thrilled to have time for more personal hobbies and activities. Here’s hoping that means walks outdoors, more time with books, updated Project Life albums, time spent with friends, progress on spring cleaning, and great workouts.

Last Week

1. Read as much as I can. I did just that. :) And it wasn’t very much….

2. Put together an outfit from my closet for our spring pictures in DC. I don’t know for sure if I’m too happy with the dress I chose, but the photo session is done, so I better be okay with it! I think they are going to turn out great, and I’m looking forward to sharing!

This Week

1. Finish The Cuckoo’s Calling. Given the very little amount of reading I’ve done since starting this book, this is actually quite the task for me. BUT I really want to move on to some other books stored on my iPad, and I’m up next for a few books on hold at the library, so I’ve got to wrap this one up.

2. Choose and print out my pictures for my March Project Life pages. I’m excited to get back to moving on this project and to make more memories to fill the album with!

3. Conquer the dresser! Awhile ago I started spring cleaning around the apartment. I did pretty well for a couple of weeks, but then I completely put it on hold. I want to get back to it by cleaning out the drawers of our dresser.

4. Meal plan for next week. I ate a lot of dinners at the office over the past couple of months, so we completely stopped meal planning. When I have been eating at home, we have defaulted to Progresso soup cans, spaghetti, or plain chicken & rice. While each of these meals will likely still be in our dinner rotation, I’m ready to start cooking full meals again! This will all start with me getting back into my habit of meal planning and picking up everything that we need for our meals over the weekend.
