February Favorites

Daily Rituals: How Artists Work  by Mason Currey

This is a book I pick up every now and then to read a quick excerpt here and there.  I’ve really enjoyed it this month!

The Seven Minute Workout app

{Not pictured above}

I was living out of a hotel for two weeks in February working very late nights. This app helped me keep up a regular workout right in my hotel room. All I needed was a chair. While searching for the link to the app, I found this New York Times article that discusses the scientific benefits of this exact workout! Pretty neat.

Friday Night Lights

{Not pictured above}

My husband and I have been watching Friday Night Lights on Netflix since last summer. We are about to wrap up the final season. I absolutely love this show!  I have made a connection with almost all the characters, and it reminds us of growing up in small town Texas.

Come to Me by the Goo Goo Dolls Pandora Station

{Not pictured above}

This station has a good mix of Top 40 and new artists with a similar sound to the Goo Goo Dolls.

Starbucks Blonde Roast Via Instant Coffee

I never thought I’d enjoy instant coffee, but my husband surprised me with a care package while I was away on business, and these Starbucks Via packets were included. The coffee provided at the office I was working out of was not good at all, so I started drinking this every day. I would not say this beats my normal coffee from home or freshly brewed at Starbucks, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good this tasted!

Body Care

Lush Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter

I have been applying this stuff to my cuticles most nights before bed. It smells so good, and I can really see a difference in my normally very dry cuticles.

Lush Tea Tree Toner Water

Can you tell I love Lush? This is another goody I purchased to take with me on my business trip, and I’ve used it ever since. I spray a little on my face both in the morning and at night. It’s very refreshing, and I believe this spray is the reason I didn’t break out the way I ALWAYS do when traveling.

Words of Williams

{Not pictured above}

Eric and Kelsey at Words of Williams write about lots of different topics (including posts about their precious daughter Rooney), but the post that originally brought me to their blog was the story of how they became totally debt-free and paid off $39,772 in 23 months. They offer plenty of practical advice on finances and budgeting. Eric even wrote a book that I’d love to read called It’s Your Money – What Will You Do with It?.

Weekly Wishes #7

Tonight’s dinner thanks to the Mix & Match Mama. Delicious!!

Each Monday night, I link up with The Nectar Collective to share my “wishes” or goals for the week and to see how I did on my goals last week.

Last Week

1. Order my prints for my January Project Life layout and, if time allows,  put it together. I ordered them but did not make the layout yet. It actually took me a long time to figure out how to print 4X3 pictures in the cheapest and most efficient way. Once I did (using The Beautiful Mess app), I ordered my prints from CVS, but I haven’t picked them up yet.

2. Finish This is Where I Leave YouDone! I gave it two out of five stars on GoodReads. It was a fun read in some parts, but it was pretty dirty and didn’t have a very good ending. I did find myself liking the characters at times and getting into the story line, but that was more in the second half. The movie comes out later this year (with Jason Bateman and Tina Fey) – it will be a fun movie to see with my Book Club.

3. Make it to  BodyPump Thursday evening, yoga on Saturday, and BodyPump again on Sunday. Do a short, at-home workout on Tuesday. Yep, I did each of these workouts!

This Week

1. Read half of Allegiant.

2. Do the same workout schedule as last week but add in my Tuesday morning cycling class.

3. Put together my January Project life layout. It will happen this week! Also, pick out my prints for my February layout. Gotta catch up!

4. Start my next travel post.

Les Mills BodyFlow class on Saturday

Late Saturday lunch at Cheesetique. Grown up grilled cheese!

It has been a nice weekend! I’m look forward to today as it’s yet another Sunday with not many set plans.

Reading  This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Topper. Almost done! I’ll let y’all know my thoughts when I’ve gotten through it – hopefully I’ll finish today.

Writing  a grocery list

Listening  to a Pandora station based off of “Come to Me” by the Goo Goo Dolls

Thinking  I’m ready for spring and time spent outside exploring the city

Smelling  gross. I just got back from BodyPump and have not showered yet. I wanted to get this post written first!

Wishing  that I could be home in Texas celebrating my Dad’s 50th birthday with my family today. Happy birthday, Dad! I’m so blessed to have you in my life.

Hoping  for a nice day catching up on reading and some other hobbies. We finished House of Cards, Season 2 last night, so it’s time for other things.

Wearing  my workout clothes

Loving  the changing of the seasons. It’s supposed to snow again this weekend, so we aren’t out of winter yet, but we got a glimpse of spring this weekend, and it is making me excited for all things fresh, pastel, and warm.

Wanting  coffee! I haven’t had any today. I must fix that soon!

Needing  a slower week at work.

Feeling  productive. Yesterday I cleaned a bit, did laundry, went to yoga, went to church, and got some work done. Today I’ve already made it to the gym and I’m hoping to keep getting some things done today while still having time to relax.

Clicking  Facebook. I’ve been a bit overwhelmed by my Bloglovin’ feed lately. I think it’s because I didn’t check it much while on my two-week business trip to Memphis, so I’ve kind of gotten out of the habit. I think I may just need to clean out the blogs I follow so that it’s less overwhelming to look at. There are many, many blogs that I loved reading when I first got into blogs but are now either too consumed with sponsored posts or have just lost the charm that I originally loved about them.

Lazy Days with Banana // 04

Each month I post pictures of my cat Banana sitting around doing nothing but being cute, and I call this series Lazy Days with Banana. I do this so that I can limit the amount of Banana pictures I share on other posts. I do share pictures of him outside of these posts occasionally (and way too much on Instagram), but at least I try to not look like a crazy cat lady. :)

Yes, my cat does watch entire TV shows with me….

Weekly Wishes #6

This was taken outside our apartment. The mountains of snow just won’t melt!

Each Monday night, I link up with The Nectar Collective to share my “wishes” or goals for the week and to see how I did on my goals last week. I missed last week do to a crazy work schedule, so I’m going to start with a clean slate and just make some new goals for this week.

This Week

1. Order my prints for my January Project Life layout and, if time allows,  put it together.

2. Finish This is Where I Leave You. Not loving it so far, but I’m going to keep going with it.

3. Make it to  BodyPump Thursday evening, yoga on Saturday, and BodyPump again on Sunday. Do a short, at-home workout on Tuesday.

I’m keeping things simple this week. Looking forward to having a little more time than earlier this month to work on personal goals.

The Sunday Currently, Volume 13

This is our only picture together from our dinner out Friday, so I wanted to share it even though it’s terrible quality

I can’t even begin to describe how good it feels to be home. The last couple of weeks were full of very long work days in Memphis, TN with no time for personal hobbies. I had thought that I would be able to keep up with my The Sunday Currently and Weekly Wishes posts while I was gone, but I was very, very wrong! As a result, the only posts that went up were a couple that I had pre-scheduled; I’m so glad I took the time to write some posts ahead of time so that my blog was not completely abandoned.

I returned home Friday afternoon, and then we went to Chinatown in DC for a nice Valentine’s/ Daniel’s birthday dinner at La Tasca and a movie. Saturday we had a good group of friends over to eat BBQ and watch the first three episodes of House of Cards, Season 2. We have had a lot of fun since I’ve gotten back home, but I am so excited about today because we have no plans or commitments. So far, all I have done is sleep in and get caught up on a few blogs…. It’s going to be a great day.

Reading  This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Topper. The only reading I did the past two weeks was on the plane ride to Memphis, so I’m hoping to read quite a bit today.

Writing  this blog post and not a lot else

Listening  to nothing but Banana purring, but I might turn on a couple YouTube videos soon

Thinking  that I should have waited to do our tax return later instead of last night because I’m not happy with our unexpected, bad results! As a tax accountant, I really should have paid more attention to my own tax withholdings throughout the year….

Smelling  my Anthropologie Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon candle

Wishing  that I hadn’t missed the snow day in DC last Thursday! Being cooped up inside working from home while watching the snow fall sounds wonderful!

Hoping  that I can do the couple of productive things I have on my list for today: laundry, unpacking, and getting to my 4:30pm BodyPump class

Wearing  sweatpants and a sweatshirt

Loving  having time to sit around doing nothing but read blogs and books

Wanting  a nice long Sunday

Needing  to start planning our activities for our big trip in May!

Feeling  very, very happy

Reading List

I like to read a variety of books – everything from biographies to historical fiction to mysteries to business. Because of this, the list of books that I would like to read is very, very long. Too long to list out in a blog post (or to actually read in real life). But I thought it would be fun to post a list of books that I am planning to read in the near future, including books I’m on the waiting list for at my library, are sitting on my nightstand, or are just on my mind to read in the next few months. I only have a goal of reading two books per month, so you can see that my reading list isn’t the most realistic – but it is still fun to think about books I’m interested in.

The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith (pseudonym for J.K. Rowling)

Allegiant by Veronica Roth (Book #3 of the Divergent Series)

Night Film by Marisha Pessl

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

Christian Life

The Magnificent Obsession: Embracing the God-Filled Life by Anne Graham Lotz

Too Small to Ignore: Why the Least of These Matters Most by Wess Stafford, Former CEO of Compassion International

The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss

The $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau
